The Government has announced the creation of a Public-Private Strategic Council whose mission is to design and implement action in order to strengthen the development and expansion of offshoring in Chile.

This industry, which provides international technology services, is growing globally at an annual rate of 40 percent, opening up endless opportunities for countries in the sights of multinationals looking for investment platforms so as to expand and optimize their international services. According to BCG figures, offshoring is one of the world?s most dynamic industries, valued at US$ 65 billion in 2006 and expected to be worth US$ 281 billion by 2010. The United States generates the greatest demand for these services, with projections of US$ 177 billion.

Approximately 47 foreign firms have chosen Chile as a platform from which to offer their services to the world, exporting more than US$ 150 million in services and employing over 9,000 workers.

CORFO will allocate US$ 11.2 million to the development of this cluster in 2008, of which US$2.9 million will be used for an Intensive Advanced English Training Program to benefit 1,000 IT technicians and engineers.

The goal is for the industry to export at least US$ 1 billion and to generate close to 35,000 jobs by 2010.
