Chile has the highest per capita purchasing power parity (PPP)-adjusted GDP in Latin America, according to an IMF report. The country maintains its position in this year's figures at US$14,673. The per capita GDP at going prices is US$10,125.

The figures indicate that Chile will continue to lead the region until 2013, when its per capita GDP should reach close to 20 thousand dollars, the minimum to be classified as a developed country.

Although Chile will lead the region in the next few years, its per capita GDP shows one of the slowest growth rates among Latin American economies and is expected to increase by just US$2,224 between 2007 and 2013.

Chile is 54th in the world and is followed by Argentina and Mexico regionally. While the country shows a more even income distribution than other developing countries such as China or India, there is still a large gap when compared to developed economies. France, for example, comes in at more than US$45.000, and Spain at US$35,000. Luxemburg is the country with the highest per capita GDP for the fourth consecutive semester, at US$117,231 in 2008.
