Once again, Chile has ranked 1st in Latin America in technological development according to a World Economic Forum study, moving from 31st to 34th place.

Only three other Latin American and Caribbean countries placed within the top 50: Barbados (38th), Puerto Rico (39th) and Jamaica (46th). The report thus qualified the regional outlook as "less positive" than the previous year. Mexico fell to 58th place while Brazil came in 59th.

Denmark leads the world ranking of 127 countries, followed by Sweden. Switzerland rose two points this year to come in third, while the United States moved up three spots to fourth place.

"The success of these countries shows that a sound vision of the importance of ICTs on the part of government and an early focus on education and innovation are key", the report points out.
