Foreign direct investment (FDI) in Chile reached US$14.5 billion in 2007 according to the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), rising 96% with respect to the previous fiscal year.

The document "Foreign Investment in Latin America and the Caribbean 2007" ranked Chile third in the list of countries in the region that attracted the most foreign investment, after Brazil (US$34.6 billion) and Mexico (US$ 23.2 billion).

The FDI reached a record US$106 billion in Latin America and the Caribbean, increasing 46% relative to 2006. The increase is mainly due to the region's economic growth and the sustained world demand for raw materials.

When measured in terms of Gross Domestic Product (GDP), not including financial centers in the Caribbean, the largest recipient countries were Panama, Chile and four Central American countries: Honduras, Costa Rica, El Salvador and Nicaragua. In keeping with previous years, the main investors in the region were the United States, the Netherlands and Spain.
