The Economist: Chile is second Latin American country with best quality of life

The Economist Pocket World in Figures 2008 list, which compares the economies of 183 countries, placed Chile 39th among the countries with best quality of life, only after Argentina (36) in Latin America. After Chile in the list come Uruguay (43), Costa Rica (47), Cuba (49), Mexico (51), and Panama (54).

Norway was elected the country with the best quality of life in the world, followed by Island (2), Australia (3), Ireland (4) and Sweden (5). Canada ranked 6th, above Japan and the USA.

The ranking is made up of a 200-variable index including economy, health and education, child welfare, crime, executions, foreign investment, domestic consumption, and life expectancy.

The listing reported on the top 10 capital cities with the highest cost of living: Oslo, Paris, Copenhagen, London, Tokyo, Osaka, Reykjavik, Zurich, Frankfurt, and Helsinki.
