América Economía: Santiago replaces Sao Paulo as best city for doing business in Latin America
Publicado el: 17 de junio de 2007

Santiago reclaimed the position of best city for doing business in Latin America-after being outperformed by Sao Paulo last year-and shares regional leadership with Miami, according to América Economía Magazine´s 2007 ranking.

Santiago's climb is largely the result of Sao Paulo's downward slide due to the urban violence that has affected the city over the past year. Miami benefited from a similar situation, in which Monterrey's fall to No. 3 -instigated by the appearance of drug-trafficking that has seriously affected quality of life in this city- allowed Miami to share the No. 1 position.

Connectivity, macroeconomic stability, and communications infrastructure are some of Santiago's "pluses", in addition to high quality of life and safety. The study shows that the drive behind our capital?s strong points lies in investments made in the late '90s and beginning of this decade.

To carry out the study, the magazine considers a variety of indicators measuring -objective- data about the cities in addition to variables reflecting distinct attributes of each place. This information is used to estimate the cities current and future capacity for business based on geographic position, distance from key ports, passenger transportation capacity, digital connectivity, intellectual productivity, dangerousness, and business innovation. The study also considers a survey conducted with close to 1,700 executives in the region.
