Chilean Government signs agreement with German R&D Center FraunhoferPublished: August 28, 2008

Chile signed a cooperation agreement to set up an institute that is to become part of the Fraunhofer conglomerate, one of the five largest research institutes in the world.
The agreement entered into with the Ministry of Economy considers the implementation of a Systemic Biotechnology Center (SBC) in Chile to add value to the aquaculture, agro-food, forestry, energy and mining sectors. It will also offer vast opportunities for the development of human and veterinary medicine.
According to the Ministry of Economy, the SBC will be the German conglomerate's first institute in Latin America and it will be part of a plan to attract high quality research centers and improve the competitiveness of companies and productive sectors through innovation. The agreement will result in numerous partnerships with Chilean universities, research centers and companies.
