3rd International Conference on Renewable Energy Investment and CDM
Published: August 28, 2008
Since 2005, the Chilean Economic Development Agency, CORFO, in collaboration with the National Energy Commission (CNE, as per its acronym in Spanish), has offered an Investment Promotion Program in Non-conventional Renewable Energy (NCRE) in Chile.
This program has orchestrated three project co-financing contests in 2005, 2006, and 2007. These initiatives have resulted in a portfolio of over 100 projects with public financing exceeding US$4.6 million. These projects, currently in different phases of development, have also received private investments totaling over US$1.5 billion.
Furthermore, two International Meetings on Investment in Non-conventional Renewable Energy and CDM were held in October 2006 and November 2007. Thanks to these events, local project developers have gained better understanding of this market niche, networking with international investors and building partnerships to secure financing for their initiatives.
A third meeting is planned for October 30-31, 2008, parallel to the World Summit on Climate Change and Renewable Energy to be held October 28-31, wich will place Chile on the spotlight for international discussions on renewable energy, climate change and sustainable development.
A variety of activities will be held during the Summit, such as:
- The Latin American Carbon Forum; (open to the public, registration required)
- The Clean Development Mechanism Executive Directors' Meeting; (private event)
- The CDM National Designated Authorities Forum; (private event)
- CORFO's International NCRE and CDM Meeting; (open to the public, registration required)
The two activities open to the public will bring together hundreds of participants including a wide range of stakeholders, international carbon trading authorities and organizations, developers of Chilean renewable energy initiatives, and national and foreign investors.
