WEF: Chile leads Latin America in global competitiveness rankingPublished: October 27, 2008
Chile rose two spots in the World Economic Forum's (WEF) Global Competitiveness Report 2009, ranking 28th among the 134 economies assessed and leading the ranking among Latin American countries.

Other ranked countries in the region are Costa Rica (59), Mexico (60), Brazil (64), and Argentina (88). The United States was ranked 1st, followed by Switzerland, Denmark, Sweden, and Singapore.
In the report, Chile stands out in the macroeconomic stability index, ranking 14th worldwide, and in the labor market efficiency index (17), although it received lower scores in some items such as hiring and firing practices. Among Chile's weaknesses are the elementary education index (110), quality of math and science education (107), innovation (56), and research and development (64).
