InnovaChile accepts applications for its bio-business creation program
Published: May 13, 2009

The objective of the program is to have ten world-class business plans, which will be promoted internationally. The institution expects to receive more than 100 projects from all over the country.

Responding to the challenge of growth generation in the Chilean biotech venture field, CORFO's committee InnovaChile has launched its program for the creation of opportunities in bio-business. It is a process of acceleration of new biotechnology businesses that enables developers to go from a product or service prototype to the market.

This initiative will last over 15 months and is completely free. It is aimed at entrepreneurs with new projects, and at businesses that wish to commercially encourage new development from their project portfolio. Participants will have mentors, become part of effective networks and will participate in nine training workshops.

The program will help entrepreneurs to add value to their business in the fields of intellectual property strategies, patents and business structure. To do this, the participants will be supported by national and foreign experts, who will provide constant feedback. The initiative seeks to finish with ten world-class business plans, which will be promoted internationally.

Candidates will be selected according to predetermined, known criteria. The successful applicants will obtain knowledge which is unique in the market. This includes assistance in developing a business plan with global standards, and communication tools to present their businesses to specific biotechnology investment forums.

The initiative seeks to generate learning and feedback among all of the programs' participants, including those who must leave the project for some reason. Additionally, the program has a strategy to protect intellectual property, including mandatory confidentiality agreements.

The recruitment process has already started in Antofagasta. Similar events will be held in Valparaíso, Santiago and Concepción.
