Why Chile?

The company chose Arica to develop this research centre because of its natural advantages, such as the year-round dry climate and the fact that the valley is isolated from the country's agricultural zone.
These allow an extended 9 months a year off-season, taking the advantage of the months in which the northern hemisphere is in winter. The total number of months in which continuous research can be made reaches almost 3/4 of the year. For the company it means costs savings and longer research time.

"The unbeatable natural and climatic conditions of the Valle de Azapa make it a unique place for the development of specialized agriculture and seed research. Together with the important support of CORFO, this made us decide on Arica to set up one of Pioneer's most important Centres in the world."
