Chile's farmed salmon industry has grown by leaps and bounds over the past two decades, and Chile is expected to surpass Norway as the world's top salmon producer. The industry has experienced massive growth over the last 17 years.

  • Chile is the world's second largest exporter of salmon
  • Total exports in 2008 were over US$ 2.4 billion
  • The industry has expanded 22% annually over the last decade
  • Export figures grew by 6.4% in 2008
  • Salmon is the country's third largest export
  • Seafood products account for around 32% of Chile's total food exports
